UK tech accelerates and extends beyond London: new report for Tech Nation and the UK Government

Dealroom.co prepared a new report for Tech Nation and the UK Government’s Digital Economy Council.

The UK leads Europe with 15 unicorns, but this is only part of the story. Dealroom has identified an astonishing 60 unicorns that have been created in the UK since the early 2000s. The UK has created 35% of all unicorns from Europe and Israel (60 out of 169). Since 2016 more new unicorns were created in the UK than in Germany, France, Sweden and the Netherlands combined.

And it’s not just London. Uniquely, the UK has six tech hubs in which already two or more unicorns have been created: Cambridge (5), Oxford (4), Manchester (5), Leeds (2) and Edinburgh (2). Looking ahead, the UK also continues to lead Europe by number of potential future unicorns.
